Ingredients 

Main Ingredients

  • 6 cups Onions, thinly sliced
  • 4 tablespoons Butter
  • 2 cloves Garlic, minced
  • 1 cup Dry white wine
  • 8 cups Beef broth
  • 1 teaspoon Dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon Salt to taste
  • ½ teaspoon Black pepper to taste
  • 1 baguette French bread, sliced for serving
  • 2 cups Gruyere cheese, shredded for serving

Instructions 

  1. In a large skillet, melt the butter over medium heat. Add the onions and cook until caramelized, about 20 minutes.
  2. Add the garlic and cook for another minute.
  3. Transfer the onions and garlic to the slow cooker. Add the wine, beef broth, thyme, salt, and pepper. Stir to combine.
  4. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours.
  5. Before serving, toast the French bread slices and top with shredded Gruyere cheese. Place under the broiler until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
  6. Ladle the soup into bowls and top each with a slice of the cheesy bread.
