  • 2 cups yellow split peas rinsed and drained
  • 1 large onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 cups ham diced
  • 8 cups chicken broth
  • 2 cups carrots sliced
  • 2 cups celery sliced
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions 

  1. 1. In a large pot, sauté the onion and garlic until softened.
  2. 2. Add the ham and cook for a few more minutes.
  3. 3. Stir in the yellow split peas, carrots, celery, chicken broth, thyme, black pepper, and bay leaves.
  4. 4. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for about 2 hours, or until peas are tender.
  5. 5. Remove bay leaves before serving.
